Air Mattress in Camping

Picturing a small stream running by a field of grass, with trees hiding you from the rest of the world can seem like the perfect place to be.  You get to be out of the city with the car noises, yelling children, and day to day stress when you go camping.  Sometimes you may just seek a camp ground with power, showers, and activities for something a little different.  In either picture you will need to have camping gear that fits your needs.  Some gear is essential for an camping trip, but other items are accessories that make the camping trip more comfortable.  The good news is most of these accessories fit within any camping budget and will provide the most pleasure during your stay.  An air mattress in camping is what I consider essential, but for most people it has been seen as an accessory.

Air mattresses are designed with comfort in mind.  Companies such as Coleman have developed mattresses that use air to cushion the hard ground.  Coleman air mattresses come in a variety of styles including different sizes, thickness, and self inflating mattresses.

First any air mattress will cushion the hard ground.  The degree of cushion is where it can be very important depending on your budget and preferences.  There are self inflating air mattresses that are just a few centimeters thick.  This type of mattress offers a cushion from the rocks and hard ground, but it still is not the best air mattress in camping.  The next style offers about eight inches between you and the ground, making for one of the most comfortable nights sleeps you will have.  This style of air bed mattresses offer built in air pumps or just a mattress.  Those with a built in Coleman air pump are usually going to need some type of electrical outlet whether it is at home or electric provided by the camp ground or your vehicle.  These beds can inflate in about ten seconds to thirty seconds depending on the size of the air pump.  They are the most practical style of air bed you can purchase because of the size and weight.

The next size is about twenty four inches thick once it has air in it.  These beds make you feel like you are sleeping on a regular mattress while you are camping.  You will also be off the ground enough to stand up from the bed rather than having to get off the ground.  Most of these mattresses like the above style have a built in pump making it easier to inflate them.  They also come in queen or king size depending on your needs.

The last style of an air mattress in camping is the air mattress with a cot.  Generally these air mattresses are for a single individual, but they provide enough space between you and the floor to be extremely comfortable.  The frames tend to be a little more expensive when you combine an air mattress with it than just buying a larger sized air mattress.
